Visit to West Sussex and Surry Angling Academy (WSSAA)

Visit to West Sussex and Surry Angling Academy (WSSAA)

Saturday, Nov 29, 2014

On Friday James Clarke (Sensas/Starbaits) and myself went to visit Graham Cridland who runs WSSAA. You may remember my post on our Facebook page on October 30th about Graham and WSSAA as they had lots of equipment stolen which stopped them from running the angling courses and helping disadvantaged kids and other people who would benefit from spending time with Graham and his team fishing.

Soar Valley Winter League Round 5 - Phil Ackerley

Soar Valley Winter League Round 5 - Phil Ackerley

Monday, Jan 25, 2021

Friday returned from my engineering contract in a poor state due to the start of a Winter flu type bug. Had informed Captain Stu to get a replacement however there was none so I was in the team. Arriving at the draw Sunday morning I was greeted with a good peg (under normal river conditions) however when arriving at the peg it resembled a jacuzzi !

John is the newest member of Team MAS and has an excellent match record with his club Greenhill AC winning many matches over the last few years. Winter League Practice Open 26-10-14

Sunday, Oct 26, 2014

Every other weekend to the Winter league there is a open match on the emerging River Soar. Today for me I drew the Abbey Peg 4 in very good company so my work would be cut out to gain a respectable result.

Practice Day on the River Soar on the Waterside

Practice Day on the River Soar on the Waterside

Thursday, Oct 23, 2014

The Saturday before the 2nd round of Winter league on the Sunday seen myself at the Waterside Pub side practising with my Greenhill AC piscatorial, John Kilby who has been fishing very successfully local Leicestershire commercial pools but he fancied a change. He expressed a great interest in fishing canals and rivers and expanding his skill set, he certainly did as Top Wigston Rod Joe Oakes gave John an hour of his time …… massive learning curve for John as Joe soon had him bagging.

Angling Trust Soar Valley Winter League Round 2

Angling Trust Soar Valley Winter League Round 2

Monday, Oct 20, 2014

Winter League on the river Soar is the fastest growing attendance angling competition in the UK with 9 teams of 10 it could take a lot more but thats next year :) With the success of the Sensas Soar Masters series this summer the Winter league continued in the same way with the 90 anglers committed over the 6 matches. Each team has about 15-20 anglers so effectively the league could realise double that up to 180 anglers!

The River Soar Winter League started and myself and recruit to Midlands angling supplies John Kilby took time to study and observe several sections of the days competition. We started at the Navigation section on the pub side and later visited the 1860 length.

2014 Sensas Soar Masters Final

2014 Sensas Soar Masters Final

Sunday, Sep 21, 2014

A sunny clear day greeted the competitors after the regular draw at the Anchor Inn. For my troubles I plucked peg 46 and immediately thought okay its just to try and not finish last in an area where to get over 5lb in a match is a rarity. However the sections were a little bigger due to the amount in the final plus you always had a spare peg either side of you but it did draw in other noted pegs so to compete would be hard.
