A PRODUCT REVIEW - SENSAS 974 POLE - DAVID MELLORS

Midland Angling Supplies Product Review : By David Mellors

Sensas Nanoflex 974 Competition Pole – The Total Package

Having Purchased my 1st ever Sensas pole back in November 2009, there was 4 models at the time for the top of the range 774, 754, 744 and 724 with budget in mind and requirements for using this I opted for the 744 which cost around £1000 (including other bits as well), I thought it was time to upgrade as I had used the 744 for mainly Canals and Commercials, as I had not fished many competitive matches from around this time. Around April 2015 I volunteered my services to an up and coming and enthusiastic Angling Group called Midland Angling Supplies to support and fish a few winter league matches on the River Soar around Loughborough, having fished this many years previous I was thinking of requiring a few more number 4 and 5 sections as certain areas can be top 5 in places. With this in mind and that I had no issues with my Current Sensas 744 pole I looked to upgrade kits or even a new pole. With the introduction of the new Nanoflex poles I was certain to stay with the brand and after hearing that the top 5 are interchangeable the prospect of using my original kits off 744 was also an advantage.

After visiting a few Senses retailers around the areas I decided on the Sensas 974, it felt, on first impressions very well balanced and light to hold compared to the old 744. The Nanoflex range  consists of four models in this range all 16M versions, 934, 954, 974 and 984, with my style varied across different venues this fitted all my requirements. 2 packages are available and I chose to go with the competition pack due to already having fighting kits which where purchased separate at reasonable prices.

In addition to your standard pole warranty Senses also include a JOKER CARD. This means no matter what happens, should you accidentally break a section, Senses will replace that section completely free of charge during the first 12 months after purchase. You must register your purchase with Senses to activate this.

The first outing of the 974 was on a practice session on the Staffs / Worcester canal where a lot of small fish and some chunky perch where brought to the net, at 1st was a bit reluctant to use on commercials as didn’t want to see the pride and joy blown up into little pieces of carbon but wasn’t to worry as its solid with a smooth handling grip. In August 2015 the pole made its way down to my local Coventry Canal where previous years Chub to 6lb and Carp to 19lb had been caught (this would be a test) fished the pole down the track and at 13M to reeds and a string of perch to 1lb came to the net, whist down the track 2 fish 1 a bream 2.5lb and a perch 1.5lb mange there way to the net utilising Sensas Magic Fluro Number 5 Elastic. Within a few days I found myself out again on a local commercial fishing a snake lake style venue, coupled with elastic’s 10 and 12 Hollow the pole handled well in conditions that was hot and humid and at no time did I feel strained or struggling to hold in these conditions. Carp to 15LB where hooked, landed with limitless efforts in using the 974.

Bream of 2.5lb Top5 of the Sensas 974 utilising Sensas Magic Fluro Number 5 Elastic through the top 3 with number 1 removed.

Net of Perch and Bream taken on Sensas 974 utilising Sensas Magic Fluro elastics 4 ,5 and 6 up to and including Bream to 2.5lb and perch 1.5lb.

Senses 974 pole layed out to 13M, importance to utilise 2 pole rollers in this instances where long pole fishing to be used efficiently and effectively.

Each section is finished with a reinforced area at both the male and female end of the pole further adding to the high-class finish with the graphics attractive and crisp but not too much over the top and bright. Sleek and Elegant on the bank.

Summary:

Having Owned the Sensas 974 pole and tested it out during the summer, autumn and winter campaign the pole never let me down. With balance line , Hooks and Elastic every section has stood the test of time, the spares package and amount of top kits / styles and spare number 4 and 5 I cannot fault this piece of kit. For around £999 you can pick up a Sensas Nanofles 934 pole to £1900 for the very top of the range competition 984. Whatever your needs there is a pole in this range for your style.
